Just Thinking… Stepping Away…
Stepping back from videos, to focus on my podcasting and my Solo Roleplay channel.
I like this. It feels like a shift in how I run games, or maybe even how I prep. Videos are bright and noisy. Easy to consume but hard to hold onto. Podcasting is slower. It’s a voice in your ear. It sits with you. Maybe that’s the same with how I want my table to feel.
I picture a campaign that leans into that. Less showy. Less about big battle maps and more about the voices in the room. The players leaning in. I can see a session where I set the scene in a quiet, low voice. A dripping cave. A dim torch. A slow echo. They listen. It feels like a podcast in the best way.
At the table:
“Your footsteps crunch on the dry moss. The air smells like rust. Somewhere ahead, water moves. Slowly.”
I pause. I let them decide how to move forward. Nobody checks their phone. Someone whispers an idea. It’s all in their heads now.
I wonder if that’s better than my usual splashy style. I like minis. I like terrain. But sometimes I feel like I’m making a video for my own table instead of a game. Maybe stepping back is good.
Another angle. If I think of my prep like podcast work, I cut the fluff. I plan for story beats and strong moments. I learn to use silence. I write less read-aloud text. I trust my voice to carry it.
I could even experiment with solo prep recordings. Just me talking through the dungeon ideas. Letting the rhythm of speech shape the session. My voice is the map.
I feel burnt out and don’t find putting all that work into videos to get little no results or feedback. 11k subscribers but no one gets notified? Maybe it’s because YouTube said my channel is old and they push fresh accounts, or was it that my channel was flagged a few years ago by a little jealous YouTuber and his minions? Yes that’s it according to support. I enjoy podcasting, always have and that does really well for me, so I will focus on my various podcast and solo rpg videos.
Stay tuned for more!
